Our vision & mission

CARMAS VISION IS TO MOBILIZE A UNITED YOUTH MOVEMENT THAT COLLABORATES ACROSS BORDERS TO ACHIEVE CLIMATE JUSTICE.

WE DO THIS BY EMPOWERING YOUTH TO TAKE ACTION FOR CLIMATE JUSTICE AND RESILIENCE.

WHY OUR VISION IS IMPORTANT

Tackling climate change is the biggest and most urgent global challenge the world is facing – and the task will be impossible without climate justice.

In Malawi, the impacts of severe drought, flooding, and food insecurity are deeply felt, despite the country's minimal COâ‚‚ contribution. As one of the poorest countries in the world, Malawi is also less resilient to climate change.

Despite this, there is limited knowledge of climate justice globally, including in Malawi, and no strong climate justice youth movement in northern Malawi. This is why we are calling for action now. At the same time, we must support climate-affected communities in adapting to their new reality in the best possible way.

The Malawian government lacks the funding to tackle all the major challenges the country is facing. As an organization, CARMA aims to help bridge that gap. Our work is centered in Nkhata Bay District in Northern Malawi. Here, as in all districts of Malawi, climate change is a reality, and the population feels its impact. We see great potential in working with youth in Nkhata Bay District, empowering them to drive the change we want to see. That being said, we also work beyond the boundaries of Nkhata Bay District especially when it comes to awareness.

The CARMA Youth Hub, located in Nkhata Bay (Boma), is the heart of our activities. From here, we manage projects, host workshops, and hold open meetings. We collaborate with several private and public schools across Nkhata Bay District and engage in tree planting and community resilience projects in partnership with climate-affected communities.
